Last Sunday I ran a ‘Mother Daughter’ workshop for 2 of my lovely friends and their daughters. We agreed beforehand which techniques and looks we wanted to achieve so that I could devise a personal plan for all 4.
In the afternoon we focused on stage makeup that would translate across multiple costume changes (Pocahontas, Stars and Stripes!) for the girls who spend a lot of time onstage dancing and acting. For the mums, we played with creating depth and light with eye makeup, soft emphasis on the brows and flattering glowing skin.
Working from my home setup in Stockport I run workshops for up to 4 at a time alongside one to one sessions. My aim with any makeup I do is to make the person in the makeup chair feel as good as they look. In a workshop context this means supportive guidance and a safe place to play and experiment.
After the initial consultation I demonstrate the desired look and will then guide the participant to recreate the look on the other half of their face, aka a ‘halfie’! The workshops cover the basic tools, techniques and theory that enable the student to recreate the look and to understand why certain techniques will work best.
I currently offer:
‘Make Up Rookies’ – For makeup newbies of all ages in a group setting of 4. 3-hour session.
‘Mother and Daughter’ classes (as above) for 2 people. 3-hour session.
‘One to One’ – bespoke workshop with a personalised programme. 2-hour session.
‘Bridal and Prom’ – Event workshops for brides and prom girls who want to do their own makeup on the day. 2-hour session one to one or 3-hour in group of 4.
Following the workshop, a completed face chart and full product breakdown is provided to enable you to easily recreate and shop your own look.
Crucially, as well as wanting to enable participants to recreate the look themselves it’s important to me that everyone enjoys the experience. I encourage an atmosphere that is relaxed and not too serious! 🙂
